The SPD-SLR cleat for shoes that aren’t the newest Shimano models. It keeps the traditional SPD-SL fore-aft adjustment range, so non-Shimano 3-bolt shoes and older Shimano shoes can reach their usual cleat position on SPD-SLR pedals, with 6° of float (±3°). Shimano is clear that it does not bring the lower stack height or weight saving of the other SPD-SLR cleats.
